About us

Karky Research Foundation(KaReFo), founded by Dr. Madhan Karky, has been involved in the area of language computing and research since 2013. Payil was launched in April 2019; it is KaReFo’s attempt to enable people across the globe to learn south Indian languages. Our team shares the vision of enabling people of all backgrounds, ages and nationalities to savour the joy of learning languages.

Payil offers a variety of Tamil courses, designed in an activity based approach to make learning enjoyable and retentive. We offer a variety of courses - Read Write Tamil (2 levels), Speak Tamil (2 levels), Tamil Grammar and Tamil Literature Appreciation. In the current scenario, the classes are conducted online to enable learners across the globe to learn seamlessly.

Dr. Madhan Karky Vairamuthu is a research associate, software engineer, screenwriter and entrepreneur. A holder of a doctorate in computer science from the University of Queensland, Karky began his professional career as an assistant professor at the College of Engineering, Guindy. He resigned from his teaching profession in early 2013 and launched the Karky Research Foundation (KaReFo), an educational research organization which primarily focuses on language computing and language literacy.He also founded the Mellinam Education, which develops educational games and story books designed to propagate learning among children.

The faculty at Payil are qualified, experienced and well versed in the approach used in Payil : Tamil Courses.

FAQs

All courses are designed as 30 session ones with each session running for 40min - 1 hour.
As of now, classes are held only on weekdays (Mon-Fri).
There will be one session per day from Mon-Fri. So, 5 classes a week.
After each session, the session handout will be shared with all students. If a learner misses a class, she / he can go through the handout and clarify doubts, if any with the instructor.
The handouts are generally circulated through the Whatspp group for the course batch. If the learner does not have Whatsapp installed, he / she can opt for receiving handouts through email.
The classes are held over the Zoom app.

To receive the course completion certificate,the learner must have a minimum of 60% attendance.
The home assignments are to be shared on the Whatsapp group for the course batch. If the learner does not have Whatsapp installed, he / she can submit home assignments through email.

Terms of Services

By enrolling for our Payil : Tamil Courses, you engage in our “Service” and agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions. These terms of service apply to all learners enrolling in any of our courses.

1.Enrollment

The enrollment is realised after registration and payment of fees on our website. After the availability of the course applied for is verified, the student will receive confirmation of course enrolment through email from Payil team. The student is bound to registration until confirmation from Payil team.

2.Scope and nature of our service

Payil offers an online platform through which learners can learn language courses. By making a registration on our website, the registrant enters directly into a contractual relationship with Payil.

3.Change of reservation

When a learner enrolled for a particular course wants to shift to another course, he/she can do so within 5 days of the commencement of the course, based on availability.

4.Cancellation

If an enrollee wants to cancel his/her enrolment before the commencement of the course, 90% of the fee paid will be refunded. To apply for cancellation, the enrollee has to send an email to courses@karky.in

The student may opt to cancel her/his enrolment within 5 days of the commencement of the course, in which case, 80% of fees will be refunded.

The refunds will happen within 15 business days in case of transfer within India and 30 days in case of overseas payments starting from the confirmation of cancellation from Payil.

If the learner wishes, it is possible for Payil to have the payment for a cancelled course as an advance for any of the forthcoming courses. For this, a request has to be emailed to courses@karky.in

5.Privacy

The data registrants/enrollees enter in the Payil website will be used by the Payil team for allocation of courses and communication. The registrants’ / enrollees’ personal information will not be shared with any third party.

6.Notice of defects

If a learner finds any shortcoming in the teaching learning process during the course, he/she is expected to inform the Course Manager at courses@karky.in immediately. By not doing so, the obligation of remedy is forfeited. It is recommended to address the shortcomings through email to have a proper record of the communication.

7.Minimum group size

If the minimum learner group size (3 students) for any batch of any course is not reached, Payil reserves the right to decide whether to proceed with the course for the batch or to cancel the course initiate refund.

8.Prices

All the courses are priced at 6000 INR.
This amount includes the course fee, taxes and fee for payment gateway.

9.Copyright

All. contents used for teaching and shared as a part of this course are copyright protected. All rights are owned by Karky Research Foundation. Any use or reproduction of this content of any kind without Payil’s explicit consent is punishable and inadmissible. Total or partial extraction of content from Payil course material is strictly prohibited including the incorporation of any of the content to any other work or web page.

10Payment method

The fee is to be paid online after registration for the particular course in the Payil website at karky.in/payil

On successful registration, the link to the payment gateway will open in a new tab. On payment, Payil will receive payment information from the payment platform. The payment will be acknowledged before 10pm IST on the day of payment.

11.Disclaimer

As the course is held online, in case of disturbances due to power outage, internet connectivity etc at the tutor’s end, the portions missed will be amply compensated.

If the learner misses a session fully or in parts due to the aforementioned disturbances, compensatory sessions will not be held.

12.Jurisdiction and dispute resolution

Any dispute or differences shall be resolved by mutual consultations and if any arbitration is needed the matter shall be referred to the Founder and his decision shall be final.

For any further judicial reference, the jurisdiction shall be at Chennai.

Scholarship

Payil provides Dr. V.C. Kulandaiswamy scholarship for needy students residing in India. Learners can apply for the scholarship through the Payil website by giving their details and a short write up on the reason for the application. Payil will select students for the scholarship based on the write up and a telephonic interview. Presently this scholarship will be offered to 10 Indian citizens in every spell.

Refund/Cancellation policy
